If you are looking to apply for a university place in 2019, it is likely you will have to enter the clearing process. The university clearing process is for those who:

  • Did not get into the university of your choosing.
  • Did not receive any firm offers when applying to a university.
  • Are applying after June 2019.
  • Wish to enter the clearing process voluntarily.

UCAS Clearing

Those who are entering the clearing process should be aware of the following information.

University Clearing in 2019 begins on July 5th in the United Kingdom, which is results day if you are studying an International Baccalaureate. In England, A-Level results are published on August 15th 2019, and if you are expecting adequate passes, it is a good idea to register for clearing after July 5th of this year.

Important Clearing Tips to Follow

If you are planning to use the UCAS Clearing in 2019, the following tips will help you.

  • Do not take a holiday – If you have yet to secure a place in a university, it is not wise to take a holiday, as this might jeopardise your chances of success.
  • Be Well Prepared – It is important to have all your supporting documents at hand when using the telephone to try and secure a place at a university.
  • Check UCAS Track – You should make sure that you have applied for clearing by registering with the UCAS website. If you are eligible to use clearing, an “add clearing choices” button will appear on your “Track Choices” screen.
  • Check the Official Clearing Listings – You can find these on both the UCAS website and the individual university websites.
  • Contact Universities by Phone Immediately – All other potential applicants will be doing this. Which means you should make a list of your preferred universities and make contact with them by phone.
  • Stay Positive – Even if you are rejected at the university of your choice, don’t give up. University clearing can be an exhaustive process, and in order to stand the nest chance of success, you should be very meticulous in your preparation and application.
  • Make Contact with Universities Yourself – This is not something you should expect your parents to do, and by contacting universities yourself, you are demonstrating a high level of commitment, and if your parents try to help you by contacting universities on your behalf, politely decline their offer and do it yourself.
  • Don’t Forget Email – While the telephone is the preferred method of making contact, it won’t hurt your chances to also send emails to preferred universities. If you prepare well, and focus on trying to enter the university of your choosing, you have a better chance of success.

It is worth noting that you can only have one clearing choice at any given time, and rather than taking a holiday at this time, you should wait until the clearing process is over and you have secured a place in a university before thinking about a much needed holiday.
